Marine Terrace Neighbor War: Metal Rod vs Hammer Confrontation

A long-standing conflict between neighbors at Block 53 Marine Terrace has escalated through court proceedings and public social media exchanges, revealing a complex dispute that has persisted for years. The case involves Mr. Lim Jing Hao and his mother, known online as Mdm Poh, and their neighbor, Madam Nurul Jaahan Yaazid.

The dispute reached the Community Disputes Resolution Tribunals, resulting in a court order issued on July 21st. The tribunal ruled that Madam Jaahan must pay Mr. Lim $345 in damages and disbursements by August 21st. Additionally, the court ordered her not to physically or verbally attack Mr. Lim or his mother near their residence, not to interfere with their property, and to refrain from causing excessive noise through loud music or karaoke sessions.

The conflict between the two households gained public attention as early as October 2023 when videos of their confrontations went viral. One particularly dramatic incident occurred on January 13th, 2023, when Mdm Poh was hammering a nail to hang her son's graduation photo. The noise reportedly frightened Madam Jaahan's two-week-old infant, leading to a confrontation where Mdm Poh appeared holding a hammer inside her flat while Madam Jaahan stood outside the gate holding a metal rod. Both parties claimed to be acting in self-defense, with police intervention required to de-escalate the situation.

According to Mdm Poh, the problems began when Madam Jaahan moved in over a year prior, with complaints about noise, corridor smoking, and property damage including a broken wooden board. Madam Jaahan similarly raised concerns about daily noise from her neighbors, including door banging and knocking sounds.

Another significant incident occurred on May 10th, 2024, captured on CCTV footage. The video shows Mdm Poh squeezing past Madam Jaahan, who was adjusting her stroller in the corridor. While the CCTV footage does not show physical contact, Madam Jaahan filed a police report claiming she was pushed and the gate was kicked. This discrepancy between the video evidence and the police report became a key point in the subsequent court case.

Following the court ruling, the conflict has continued through social media platforms. Mdm Poh has posted about Madam Jaahan's failure to pay the court-ordered amount by the deadline, despite offering an extension. Both parties have engaged in public arguments through Facebook comments and posts, with Madam Jaahan questioning the validity of the claims and Mdm Poh maintaining that video evidence supports their position.

Mr. Lim has stated that his mother continues to share their story due to the stress of living with the ongoing neighbor conflict and the refusal to comply with the court order.

New Punggol Northshore BTO Plagued by Water Seepage and Electrical Hazards

***Update: HDB, Maincon and Consultant has came down to the unit to check. Will update on status once we have more information. A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
