Worker Injured After Crane Collapses at Sin Ming Construction Site

A 37-year-old worker was seriously injured in an accident at a public housing construction site in Sin Ming after a crane malfunctioned and collapsed. The incident occurred on the evening of October 10 at the location of the Sin Ming Residences Build-To-Order project.

Emergency services were alerted to the situation at 28 Sin Ming Street at 5:25 PM. According to the Ministry of Manpower, the worker was present in the area to oversee the demobilization, or dismantling, of a mobile crane. During this process, the crane's boom, which is its main structural arm, broke. This caused the jib, the extended lattice section at the end of the boom, to fall to the ground. The falling equipment struck the worker.

The man was transported by ambulance to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Officials confirmed that he subsequently underwent surgery for his injuries. The specific nature of his injuries and the type of surgery performed were not disclosed. The construction site is occupied by Kwan Yong Construction, while the injured worker is employed by Moh Seng Cranes.

In response to the incident, the Housing and Development Board issued a statement emphasizing that it takes a very serious view of the matter. The board affirmed that safety at its worksites is the highest priority and stated it is working with the main contractor to assist the relevant authorities with their investigation. Support and assistance will also be provided to the worker's family. The Ministry of Manpower has confirmed that its investigations into the cause of the crane failure are currently ongoing. The ministry reiterated established safety protocols, stating that equipment must be operated according to the manufacturer's instructions under the supervision of a competent person, and that exclusion zones should be established to keep personnel clear of hazardous areas during such operations.

However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
