The fire involved building materials and office equipment and quickly grew in intensity. It fully engulfed three workshop units, while a fourth unit suffered partial damage to its roof area. Firefighting crews successfully prevented the flames from spreading to other parts of the industrial building. To combat the large-scale fire, the SCDF deployed a significant force, including sixteen emergency vehicles and approximately sixty firefighters.
At the peak of the operation, firefighters employed a strategic surround-and-drown tactic. They utilized multiple high-capacity water delivery systems, including two water jets, two water monitors, an aerial monitor, and two firefighting machines. This coordinated effort was crucial in containing the inferno. The fire was declared extinguished at around 11:00 PM on the same day. However, damping-down operations, which involve wetting burnt surfaces to prevent the fire from re-igniting, were expected to continue throughout the night due to the scale of the damage.
The incident was not without risk to the responders. The SCDF noted that the structure of the affected premises had become unstable, prompting the deployment of firefighting machines to minimize risks to personnel. During the operation, two firefighters required medical attention. One was assessed for suspected smoke inhalation and transported to Singapore General Hospital, while another who felt unwell was taken to Changi General Hospital. In a positive update on November 2, the SCDF confirmed that both firefighters had been discharged from the hospital and were given medical leave.
Witnesses at the scene reported dramatic developments, including a section of a factory wall that collapsed with a loud bang during firefighting efforts. Nearby residents in areas such as Mountbatten and Eunos received official alerts advising them to avoid the vicinity. One worker from a neighboring building remarked that it was the largest fire he had witnessed in the industrial estate in his five years working there. Several workers from the affected building were evacuated, with some losing personal belongings, including important documents, to the fire.
