Gangster Claim: Man Assaults Waiter, Drags Him Out of Bar and Yells "Do You Know Who I Am?"

A man is currently assisting police investigations after he allegedly carried out a brutal assault on a waiter at a bar in Downtown East, an attack that reportedly stemmed from a small dispute over a $2 difference in the price of mineral water.

The incident, which occurred outside Jyu Yae Live Music Bar & Restaurant at E!Avenue, Downtown East, was captured on video and shared by Stomper Anonymous, who was passing by the scene at around 10 PM on December 9.

The Stomper recounted conversations overheard from customers, stating that the altercation began after the waiter mistakenly told the customer that water was 50 cents, when the actual price for the mineral water was $2.50.

The customer allegedly reacted with extreme violence. The Stomper claimed that the man kicked and beat the waiter before dragging him out of the bar. The shared video footage shows a man, presumably the waiter, lying motionless against a sliding door, while the aggressor is seen raining blows upon him. The Stomper further alleged that the attacker attempted to "jio" (Hokkien for invite) onlookers to join him in fighting the waiter, while simultaneously claiming to be a gangster and yelling the intimidating question: "Do you know who I am?"

The Stomper expressed concern over the severity of the victim's injuries, noting that the waiter "had blood all over his face and looked quite serious," and was subsequently sent to the hospital. Despite police turning up and questioning the man, the Stomper noted there were no immediate arrests, stating that the offense should be considered "grievous hurt already" in his view.

In response to the incident, a police spokesperson confirmed receiving a call for assistance at 1 Pasir Ris Close (the location of Downtown East) on December 9 at 10:45 PM. They stated that a 23-year-old man (the waiter) sustained minor injuries and was conveyed conscious to the hospital. A 37-year-old man is currently assisting with ongoing police investigations.

The bar, Jyu Yae Bistro, addressed the incident in an Instagram post on December 10. Without detailing the $2 dispute, the eatery stated that "an individual acted aggressively with no reason towards our staff while they were performing their duties." The bar noted that this was "repeated behaviour" by the same individual and, as a result, has made the decision to "permanently deny this person entry to all our establishments," enforcing a lifetime ban.
