Indian National Charged for Alleged Harassment of SIA Stewardess on Flight

A thirty five year old man has appeared in court on March 17 2026 to face charges involving the alleged harassment and molestation of a cabin crew member during an international flight. The accused is an Indian national named Akash Tiwari. The incident reportedly occurred on February 9 2026 while he was a passenger on a Singapore Airlines flight traveling from Bangkok to Singapore. The legal action follows a police investigation into the events that took place during the final stages of the journey.

According to the charges filed against him Akash Tiwari is accused of using criminal force to outrage the modesty of an air stewardess. The specific allegation states that he made deliberate physical contact with the victim by using his body to touch her buttock. In addition to the charge of molestation he was handed a second charge for using threatening behavior that caused distress to the crew member. During his court appearance on March 17 the accused indicated that he intends to plead not guilty to the allegations brought against him.

The sequence of events began on February 9 at approximately 4.30pm when the police were first notified of the disturbance. Based on preliminary investigations the air stewardess was performing her duties near the passenger’s seat when the alleged inappropriate contact occurred. The victim took immediate action by warning the man to stop his behavior and subsequently moved toward the galley area of the aircraft to prepare for the upcoming landing.

However the situation reportedly escalated when the man followed the stewardess into the galley. In that confined and restricted area he is alleged to have continued the harassment by cornering the victim. The stewardess shouted at him to stop and left the galley to distance herself from him. Despite this the man reportedly followed her into the aircraft aisle. The confrontation only ended when the victim reported the matter to her supervisor and the passenger eventually returned to his seat.

Upon the aircraft's arrival in Singapore officers from the Airport Police Division were ready to conduct follow up investigations. Akash Tiwari was subsequently arrested for his actions during the flight. The authorities have emphasized that they maintain a strict stance against any form of sexual misconduct or harassment whether these acts occur in public spaces or on board an aircraft.

The case is set to continue with a pre trial conference scheduled for March 26 2026. The legal penalties for the offenses charged are significant. Under local law individuals convicted of using criminal force with the intent to outrage modesty can face a prison sentence of up to three years a fine or caning. Furthermore those found guilty of intentionally causing harassment through threatening behavior can be sentenced to up to six months in jail a fine of up to 5000 dollars or both. The police have reiterated their commitment to dealing sternly with offenders who cause alarm or distress to others through indecent acts. As the legal process unfolds the court will examine the evidence and testimony surrounding the interaction between the passenger and the cabin crew member during the flight.
