Murder Suspect Escorted Back to Geylang Crime Scene

A forty-eight-year-old man accused of murder was escorted back to a crime scene in Geylang by police officers on the morning of April 3 2026. The individual identified as Ong Hou Cheong is facing charges for the death of seventy-year-old Chow Ling Fei. The victim passed away in a hospital on March 9 2026 following a violent encounter earlier that morning. It is understood that the two men were known to each other prior to the incident which resulted in the older man suffering fatal stab wounds to his chest area.

The case began when the police were alerted to a physical fight occurring at Lorong 16 Geylang at approximately 8.15am on March 9. Upon arriving at the location officers discovered significant bloodstains on a pavement situated near a waste bin area in close proximity to a Buddhist temple. The seventy-year-old victim was found unconscious and was immediately transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Ong Hou Cheong was also taken to the hospital while remaining conscious and was formally charged with murder the following day on March 10.

On April 3 at about 9.15am Ong was brought back to the site of the altercation to assist with the ongoing investigation. He arrived dressed in a red polo shirt and black shorts with his hands and feet secured in restraints. Throughout the process he maintained a largely expressionless demeanor while being questioned by a team of investigators in a private carpark located outside the temple known as Shanyuan Ancient Buddhist Lodge. The police led him into the carpark and toward the front of the temple where various evidence plates had been positioned on the ground to mark specific areas of interest.

Observers noted that while he appeared calm at first Ong’s expression changed during certain parts of the questioning. His brow was seen to furrow at several intervals and there were moments where he became more animated using his hands to gesture and point as he responded to the inquiries from the officers. The reconstruction moved toward three large rubbish bins where further questions were posed to the accused. Following this the officers escorted him inside the temple premises itself where they spoke with him for roughly five minutes.

The entire process was conducted under the watchful eyes of approximately twenty onlookers who had gathered on the opposite side of the road to witness the high-profile investigation. The scene remained cordoned off as the suspect was led through the various points of the crime scene to provide his account of the movements and actions that took place during the fatal encounter. Ong was eventually escorted away from the location at 9.38am after nearly half an hour of on-site questioning.

In Singapore a charge of murder carries extremely severe legal penalties. Under the Penal Code an individual convicted of murder can face the death penalty or life imprisonment with caning depending on the specific nature of the act and the intent established during the trial. The return to the crime scene is a standard part of the investigative process allowing the police and the prosecution to gather a clearer understanding of the physical environment and the sequence of events. The investigation remains active as authorities compile the necessary evidence for the upcoming court proceedings. The relationship between the two men and the events leading up to the morning of March 9 are expected to be key focus areas as the case progresses through the legal system.
