Ahmed Salim, a 35-year-old Bangladeshi national, was executed in Singapore for the murder of Indonesian domestic worker Nurhidayati Wartono Surata at the Golden Dragon Hotel in December 2018.
Despite petitioning for clemency, Ahmed's appeal was unsuccessful, leading to his capital sentence being carried out.
This marks Singapore's first judicial execution for murder since 2019 and the first execution of 2024.
Ahmed's court proceedings revealed a tumultuous relationship with Nurhidayati, culminating in her death after she refused to end her relationship with another man.
Despite efforts by his legal team to argue for a lesser sentence based on Ahmed's adjustment disorder, the court upheld the capital punishment, stating he was aware of his actions and their consequences.
Ahmed Salim was hanged on 28 February 2024.
