He splashed acid on her face, slashed her arms, and then ingested sleeping pills beside her. Despite surviving, his girlfriend required extensive medical treatment and therapy.

Lim, found to be suffering from major depression at the time, was sentenced to four years in jail for attempted culpable homicide.

His state of mind and the severity of the victim's injuries were central factors in the sentencing decision.
