A 29-year-old man has been apprehended by the police for his suspected role in two cases of loanshark harassment reported on March 20 and 21, 2024, at residential units along Choa Chu Kang Street 62 and Jurong West Avenue 3.
The incidents involved splashing red paint on the main doors and gates of the targeted units, accompanied by debtor notes.
Through thorough investigations aided by ground enquiries and police camera footage, officers from Jurong Police Division and Police Operations Command Centre swiftly identified and arrested the suspect on March 21, 2024.
The man is set to face charges under the Moneylenders Act 2008 on March 23, 2024, with potential penalties including fines ranging from $5,000 to $50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes for first-time offenders.
The police reaffirm their zero-tolerance stance towards loanshark harassment activities, emphasizing the severity of consequences in accordance with the law.
