Construction Worker Sentenced for Assaulting Masseuse in Geylang

Prodhan Sajib, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi construction worker, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and six strokes of the cane on November 11, after pleading guilty to charges of rape and assault of a 32-year-old masseuse. The attack took place on May 18, 2022, in a Geylang massage parlour.

That morning, Sajib left his construction site, claiming to buy groceries. He entered the parlour around 7:55 a.m., requesting a massage. After learning the cost, he discovered he did not have enough cash. He gestured to the masseuse to pay by card but refused to hand over his card when prompted, leading her to ask him to leave. Ignoring her request, he locked the door, forcibly carried her to a bed, and violently restrained her as she struggled and screamed.

Sajib pinned the woman down, choking and slapping her repeatedly, then covered her face with a towel to muffle her cries. In a threatening gesture, he placed his finger to his lips and motioned as if slitting his throat, frightening her into silence. During a brief moment when Sajib removed the towel, she tried to escape but was recaptured and pinned to the floor. Sajib then forced the victim to perform a sex act on him.

After the assault, the victim attempted to flee but was pulled back by Sajib, leading to a struggle over her mobile phone. She eventually managed to break free and sought help outside. Sajib briefly followed her before leaving the scene. She reported the assault to police in the early hours of May 19, and officers arrested Sajib later that day at his construction site, identifying him through CCTV footage.

During his remand, Sajib disclosed he had been using sex enhancement drugs in the months leading up to the attack. The prosecution sought a sentence of 10 to 11 years with eight cane strokes, emphasizing the extreme violence of the attack as an aggravating factor. Ultimately, the High Court sentenced Sajib to 10 years' imprisonment and six cane strokes for his actions.

Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...
