On May 31, 2025, the Singapore Police Force announced the arrest of 13 men, aged between 23 and 42, suspected of being members of secret societies. These arrests were part of a comprehensive two-day islandwide operation conducted on May 23 and 24, 2025. The operation, led by the Secret Societies Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department, involved checks on nearly 90 individuals and inspections of over 40 public entertainment outlets, nightlife establishments, and food and beverage venues.
The police stated that investigations into all suspects are ongoing. They emphasized their commitment to conducting such operations regularly and taking firm action against individuals associated with secret societies. The public was advised to avoid involvement in secret society activities and to report any such activities to the authorities.
Under Singapore law, being a member of an unlawful society is a serious offense. Individuals found guilty may face imprisonment for up to three years, a fine of up to $5,000, or both. From 2022 to 2024, more than 1,300 suspected members of unlawful societies were arrested. Additionally, data from the Singapore Prison Service indicates an increase in the number of young individuals incarcerated for involvement in secret society activities under the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Act.
The recent operation underscores the authorities' ongoing efforts to combat secret society activities and maintain public safety. The police continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to secret societies.
