Police have arrested a 49-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment reported on December 7, 2025, at 6:30 PM, at a residential unit along Jurong West Street 64. The harassment involved the unit's main gate being secured with a bicycle lock, splashed with red paint, and affixed with a debtor’s note.
Officers from the Jurong Police Division utilized images from police cameras to establish the man's identity, leading to his arrest on December 8. Preliminary investigations suggest the man is believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment island-wide.
The man will be charged in court today, December 10, 2025, under the Moneylenders Act 2008. First-time offenders face severe penalties, including a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, and up to six strokes of caning. Police urge the public to report all loanshark activities by calling '999'.
