Police Arrest Chinese National for Three Housebreaking Cases

The Police have successfully apprehended a 40-year-old male Chinese national for his suspected involvement in three separate housebreaking-related cases that occurred over a short span of time.

Between December 7 and 8, 2025, the Police received alerts concerning three distinct housebreaking incidents at residential units across several locations: along Chuan Drive, Li Hwan Close, and in the vicinity of Sentosa Island. These areas span from the heartlands to one of Singapore’s most exclusive residential zones, suggesting a pattern of opportunistic or wide-ranging criminal activity.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division launched an intensive investigation immediately. Through extensive ground enquiries, coupled with crucial assistance from high-resolution images captured by both CCTV systems and Police cameras, investigators were able to successfully establish the identity of the man. The suspect was subsequently arrested on December 8, 2025.

Preliminary investigations into the matter revealed that the man had allegedly broken into the residential units and specifically targeted jewellery items while the home occupants were away, likely exploiting the year-end holiday period when many residents are traveling. Law enforcement officers recovered several items suspected to be proceeds from the crimes, including various pieces of jewellery, cash amounts exceeding SGD1,000, four Ez-link cards, a cap, and a wig.

The man is scheduled to be formally charged in court on December 10, 2025. He will face a charge of housebreaking in order to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment under Section 451 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted of this serious offence, the man may be sentenced to a term of imprisonment that could extend up to 10 years, and he shall also be liable to a fine.

In light of the recent housebreaking incidents, and recognizing the heightened risk during the year-end holiday period when residents frequently travel overseas, the Police issued a strong public reminder to take necessary precautionary measures to secure their homes and belongings.

Residents are strongly advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Perimeter Security: Ensure that the home's perimeter is adequately lit and secured with robust fencing, walls, and gates to deter any unauthorised access. It is also advised to trim any overgrown vegetation that could offer cover for potential intruders or obstruct the view of CCTV cameras.

  2. Window and Door Security: Install sturdy locks on all windows and doors. Residents should consider reinforcing these entry points with additional security measures, such as window bars or grilles. A fundamental step is to always close and lock all windows and doors when leaving the house, even for a short time, or when retiring for the night.

  3. Burglar Alarm: Residents should consider the installation of a burglar alarm system. Ideally, this system should be connected to a professional monitoring service or a system capable of alerting the resident and their neighbors immediately in the event of a security breach.

  4. CCTV Installation: Installing CCTV cameras at strategic locations around the home is highly recommended. High-resolution images captured by these cameras have repeatedly proven instrumental in solving such cases. Additionally, displaying signs reading ‘CCTV in operation’ near entry points and vulnerable areas can act as a powerful deterrent to potential burglars.

  5. Lighting: The perimeter of the home should be well-lit. The use of motion-activated lights is particularly effective, as they illuminate any suspicious activity or persons during periods of low light.

  6. Secure Valuables: It is strongly advised to avoid keeping large amounts of cash at home, with safe deposit boxes being the preferred option. Valuable items, such as jewellery and important documents, should be kept in a secure and discreet location within the home, such as a safe that is securely bolted to fixed or permanent structures, to deter theft and unauthorized removal.

Preschool Worker Abused Trust to Molest Children

A 61-year-old Malaysian cook has been convicted of sexually assaulting three toddlers at a Singapore preschool in what prosecutors have described as one of the most horrendous cases of sexual abuse in a preschool setting. Teo Guan Huat, a Singapore permanent resident, pleaded guilty on October 27th to multiple counts of outraging the modesty of children aged one to two years old. The disturbing offenses occurred over a seven-month period from May to November 2023, during which Teo repeatedly inserted his hands into the diapers of the young girls, assaulting them multiple times each week. Despite being employed solely as a cook, Teo had been assigned additional duties that provided him unsupervised access to children, including escorting them for showers, setting up naptime mattresses, and patting them to sleep—responsibilities outside his designated job scope. Court proceedings revealed that Teo deliberately targeted the toddlers because they couldn't verbalize the abuse, believi...
