Auxiliary Police Officer Injured in Knife Confrontation Near Geylang Serai Market

A tense situation unfolded near Geylang Serai Market on the night of March 9 2026 when an auxiliary police officer was targeted in a knife attack. At around 9.50pm a forty five year old man was seen on dashcam footage approaching the officer at a traffic light on Sims Avenue. The man suddenly grabbed the officer in a chokehold while holding a knife.

In a display of community bravery members of the public rushed in to help disarming the suspect and holding him down until the police arrived to make an arrest. The officer was lucky to escape with only minor injuries and was taken to Changi General Hospital.

The suspect is now facing charges for criminal intimidation and the police have seized the knife used in the incident. Investigations are still happening to figure out why this attack occurred.
