Man in Zombie like State Escorted to Police by Driver

A viral video circulating on social media starting from March 17 2026 has captured a dramatic series of events involving a private hire vehicle driver and a passenger appearing to be under the influence of an illegal substance. The footage begins in the Toh Guan area where a man dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt is seen exhibiting highly erratic behavior. The individual appears unable to maintain his balance walking with an unsteady and aimless gait that many observers have characterized as being in a zombie like state.

As the man attempts to approach a waiting private hire vehicle he is seen stumbling significantly and nearly falling to the ground on two separate occasions. His movements were uncoordinated and he appeared to be struggling to maintain consciousness or control over his physical actions. Despite his visible impairment he eventually managed to board the vehicle. The behavior displayed by the man led to widespread speculation among netizens that he may have been under the influence of etomidate laced vape products commonly referred to as zombie vapes or Kpods. These substances are known to cause severe physical and psychological impairment including uncontrollable spasms and a total loss of motor coordination.

The private hire vehicle driver upon realizing the state of his passenger and the potential danger involved took decisive action. Instead of proceeding to a standard destination the driver navigated the vehicle directly to the Clementi Neighborhood Police Centre. This move was widely praised by the online community as a responsible act of citizenship aimed at ensuring both the safety of the individual and the general public.

Upon arrival at the police station the situation took another dramatic turn. As the vehicle stopped the man in the black hoodie attempted to flee from the scene. However his impaired state made a successful escape unlikely and law enforcement officers were quick to respond. The video shows the police successfully intercepting and apprehending the man just outside the station. Following the brief struggle the individual was seen sitting on the side of the road surrounded by multiple police officers who were interacting with him and managing the situation.

The incident has sparked a significant amount of discussion online regarding the rise of illegal vape substances and the role of transport workers in reporting suspicious activities. Many netizens expressed their respect for the driver for his quick thinking and courage in delivering the man to the authorities rather than simply asking him to leave the vehicle in a vulnerable state. Comments on social media highlighted the drivers role in keeping the community safe and suggested that he should be recognized with an award for his public spiritedness.

The police have been increasingly vigilant regarding the abuse of etomidate which was classified as a Class C controlled drug in late 2025. This classification allows for stricter enforcement and harsher penalties for those found in possession of or under the influence of such substances. This specific case in Clementi serves as a high profile example of how the public and private hire drivers can assist law enforcement in identifying and detaining individuals who pose a risk to themselves and others due to substance abuse. Investigations into the man's actions and the substances he may have consumed are expected to follow as part of the standard legal process for such incidents.
